BFA degree in Dance
Miss Emily began her journey of dance training and practice in Fort McMurray, AB, at the young age of two-years-old. Developing her ballet, jazz, and contemporary technique, she had the privilege of attending the EDGE Academy and performed at the World Symposium 2012 as a part of Team Canada. Arriving in Calgary, she continued to develop her ballet and contemporary technique, achieving Distinction in her Cecchetti exams and is currently completing her BFA degree in Dance at the University of Calgary, with an emphasis on choreography.
Throughout her university career, she has created choreography for the CBE, the IGNITE! Festival, the University of Calgary, Arts Commons, and Springboard Festival’s Physical Therapy Cabaret. She has also performed and worked as a company member with W&M Physical Theatre, Corps Bara Dance Theatre, Ember Dance Company, and Trip the Light Dance Company.
Miss Emily is interested in the many benefits of movement, particularly for dancers’ mental health. To begin her research and understanding, she has been accepted into the School of Peer Support through the Canadian Mental Health Association to receive training on how to support others through traumatic experiences. She aims to complete her MA in Movement Therapy at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in the coming years to understand the benefits of movement as a therapeutic practice. She hopes to share her knowledge and passion with her students, the Calgary arts community, and beyond.
Miss Emily finds inspiration in her students and the bravery they show through learning and dedication to their passion. Her pedagogy is rooted in cultivating each dancers’ personal artistic expression through collaboration, exploration, and discovery through play. Miss Emily is so proud and honoured to become a part of the Soul Connexion community!
