5 Ways to Reach Your Fitness Goals

If you are like most people, there are times when we struggle with maintaining a consistent approach to fitness and health. By keeping these five guidelines in mind, you will have the ability to reach your fitness goals and succeed.

1. Make a Plan with Achievable Goals

Know where you want to go with your goals and write them down. Actively putting them in writing reinforces these goals in your mind and better sets you up for success. Having it in writing also places you in a better position to keep track and record your progress. Remind yourself where you are trying to get to and re-evaluate along the way by making changes that better affect your energy management. Pace yourself as you work up – nothing is more discouraging than not being able to reach the goals you have set for yourself.

2. Acknowledge your Mental Mind Games

What are you telling yourself prior or during your workout to damage achieving results? Subconsciously, we often have a list of phrases that we tell ourselves, which keep us from pushing ourselves to that next level. Try to make a positive response to all of the discouraging thoughts that come and have them at the ready the next time you try to subconsciously sabotage reaching your full potential – Go from, “My day was so busy and I am so tired… I’ll just go to the gym tomorrow” to “I know I am tired from my long day, but going to the gym will leave me energized and set me up for a much better sleep tonight!” Think positively, get results!

3. Choose to Change your Habits

Make a conscious decision to positively influence your everyday life. Because of the busyness of life, working out may sometimes get put on the backburner, but it could be as easy as multitasking – do calf raises while you brush your teeth in the morning, or instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs. Get creative! You don’t have to be at the gym to get your blood pumping!

4. Find an Accountability Partner

Whether it is someone who has a similar interest in your work out goals, or someone that you choose to work out with, having a person to keep you on track is one of the most beneficial things for your goals. Share your goals with those who will encourage you to stay on track and push you to keep going.

5. Mix it up and Stay Inspired

Do what you need to do to keep up your morale – whether it be keeping your workouts simple and fun or taking a day off to refocus and figuring out what you need to work on. Putting up inspirational quotes for yourself is helpful in keeping your mind focused on what you want, as well as creating healthy habits and schedules to keep you on track. Let your convictions drive you and follow what you think is best for you.
